On June 6th 2014 it was 50 years ago that The Beatles gave a concert in The Auction Hall Op Hoop Van Zegen in Blokker. These concerts had a huge impact. The fixed values and rules were shaken on their foundations, even if their visit only lasted fort wo days and both concerts only for less than half an hour. These concerts turned out to be their only ones in the Netherlands. According to some, this was the final beginning of the sixties in our country.
The Foundation of The Beatles in Blokker decided to commemorate this 50-year anniversary exuberantly, together with fans, music lovers and local citizens of Blokker.
The jubilee took place in the Koedshal in Oosterblokker, at 20.30 p.m. on Saturday June 7th 2014. It was an unforgettable night filled with music. Special guests were : Tangerine and Skotwal and the best Dutch beatband The Kik from Rotterdam. The evening was lardered and closed by the world’s best Beatlescoverband, Them Beatles from Scotland. After that Dave von Raven and Kees Schaper, alias The Kekke DJ’s, played solely original singles from the sixties.
But there was much more! The jubilee was started in the Pancratius Church in Oosterblokker on June 6th 2014 by an exhibition about The Beatles in Blokker, showing never exhibited pictures of the concerts. Equally special was the exhibition of the instruments on which The Beatles played in Blokker. Gripping documentaries were shown and there was authentic merchandise. An ensemble of the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra gave a beautiful classical performance of well-known Beatles songs.
There was also an exhibition of cars which were once in possession of The Beatles, in the auction Hall. John Lennon’s Ferrari, Paul McCartney’s Rolls Royce , Ringo Starr’s Facel Vega and there was even a Chevrolet Impala on display, equal to the one in which The Beatles were driven to the Auction Hall in Blokker on the national highway 7 after their cruise on the Amsterdam canals.
